Deck Railing/Old Fencing

July 25, 2010

We finished our deck!  This was a bigger undertaking than we anticipated (well, what home improvement job isn’t??) We thought of omitting a railing around the 25 foot structure but have since reconsidered.  A couple of weeks ago a good friend gifted us a 50 foot piece of old fencing from their property.  It is the old [...]

Old Easel

July 21, 2010

I found this great old easel at a yard sale for only $2!  We cut wood for the opening and painted it with black chalkboard paint (the opening was blank when I bought it).  The cup holders are now used to house multi colored chalk and an eraser all sitting confortably in flower pots.   Great for writing notes to each [...]

End of Fair 2010

July 14, 2010

Our 4H fair is over for the year.  The piggies have gone to market and we are drooling with the anticipation of fresh bacon and ham.  I will admit that when we entered the swine barn after they had left and saw the empty pen I was a little sad.  It didn’t last long though, one [...]

Clearing Kitchen Counters

July 12, 2010

I like to keep fresh fruits on the counter – I use to have a wicker bowl to put them in, but it took up precious counter space.  These cool baskets from Ikea work great to house fruits and veggies.  We installed the rods under the cabinet and the baskets hang from the rod. We hung two rods so we [...]

Our Dog Mickey

July 8, 2010

Anyone who has heard stories about our dog knows his shifty past.  We got him in 2008 at age 3 from the Human Society.  Mickey is a 70 pound black lab mix. During our 2 years with him, despite our best efforts he has consumed a long list of items.  The most memorable include: 3 dozen eggs, shell and all, 3 bags [...]

Fair

July 3, 2010

The poultry was all dropped off today (huge sigh of relief).  The broilers and Cochins  are in their temporary homes, pictures to follow.  Tomorrow at 7AM the pigs go in.   I would be lying if I said I was not completely stressed out about the moving of the pigs to the fairgrounds.  Let us just pray [...]

Wooden Boxes

July 2, 2010

I love old wooden boxes.  At some point my collection amounted to so many that I decided to stack them together to form a simple shelving unit.  This is ideal  if you like to rearrange furniture because you can move and re-configure as needed.   Some are used for housing books, others for decorations, I have one [...]

Bathing Chickens

July 1, 2010

Well, we spent the day bathing the chickens to get ready for the 4H fair.  That is right, you need to bath them.  I will admit, the first year this sounded rather daunting, however, that year we went over to a friends house, dirty birds in hand and was schooled in the art of the bath.  This is [...]

Buffet

June 24, 2010

I must say I just love Craigslist!  What a fabulous way to connect people who are done with things to people that are looking for those very items.  It is like a perpetual garage sale you can shop at any time without spending $$ on gas or time driving around. My latest Craigs List find – [...]
